Handheld

Handheld

You buy every home device imaginable
Put emergency numbers in your phone
Sure that the purchase of precaution
Is equal to readiness preparation

The moment you dread finally arrives
And the emotional hit to your heart
Causes you to stagger

A shape-shifting
Pre-existing
Condition
Not covered by insurance

This is how you learn that
Logistics does not prepare you
For the perception of loss
Or the reality of death

This is how you learn that
You don’t need a machine
A policy, or a number
So much as someone
To hold your hand
