War Child, Borrowed

War Child, Borrowed

They
Train them to carry
Their brother in arms

While demanding they
Also run with weight
Twice their own

This is how they move
To protect the fallen
Those who fear
Intimate encounters
With the ground and
The partial flight of a
Flag they equate to
Individual freedom

Fighters return home
Where
“Your Honor” is
Grace for the
Courtroom and
Not their hearts

That’s saved for
Royal-Colored Emblems
Group Pledges
Grief
And boxes filled with
Shadows

Thought
War is insatiable anger personified as judicial chess in lands where kings are pawns.
