Sir Ernest Shackleton was a British explorer of the Antarctic, and this is the advertisement he placed in newspapers some time in 1900, which met with an overwhelmingly positive response from volunteers. The journey was widely considered courageous, but I found the advertisement to be even more so. It was in large part simply a call to live.

MEN WANTED FOR HAZARDOUS JOURNEY
Small wages, bitter cold, long months of complete darkness, constant danger, safe return doubtful. Honor and recognition in case of success.
~ Ernest Shackleton
