dust and shadow

“Pulvis et umbra sumus. (We are but dust and shadow.)” ― Horace

preface
lack of humility allows this photo to take place – me pretending to embrace nature while fantasizing that it is embracing me, shivering with bare feet in the same cultivating waters that earth destroys.

you’ll go away too
further

i’ll always wonder
if it was your presence
with me to begin with

if you go before me
my finding out will be
through spiritual methods

a secondary silence
akin to a primary grief

the kind that leaves
one digging through
soil with bare hands

to prove dust can’t
be the source of
the untouchable
